Sometimes living life in a big family does feel like a three-ring circus, but that's my life, and, all-in-all, I LOVE IT!

Things Are Not Always What They Seem

Does my blog make you think my life is a bed of roses?  It is not.
Does it seem that my life is problem-free?  It is not.
Does it seem as if my family is one big happy family?  Unfortunately, it is not.

We have our problems.  Some of them even of our own creation.  Of  course, we contend with the difficulties that life throws at everyone ~ finances, sickness, and the unanticipated complications that crop up now and then.
And, of course, with a big family, and the many different personalities in this family, well, there's a lot of squabbling that goes on.  And sometimes the internal strife is intense, and it's always sad when there is a break in family ties.

You would think from reading my blog that we are a 'picture perfect' family.  I assure you, we are not.  We have our share of troubles just as other families do.  But in my blogging I choose to highlight only the good and only the positive.  I'm not trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes, and I'm not trying to make us out to be something we are not.  My blog is sort of my scrapbook, and my journal, and I choose to  put only the best and the brightest moments in it.  And that is what I hope to remember all my life, despite the reality of the fact that things are not always what they seem.

  1. No family is perfect sweetie, we all have our flaws and carry burdens but the bottom line is "our families are ours" and that makes them special. They can hurt us the most because we love them so much but they will always be there when we fall making our landing a soft one. No my friend we all understand your family is not perfect nor should it be, after all we are only human and our families are not always as they seem either. Sending big hugs and much love to a sweet lady......:-)

  2. I am thankful that you share your family with us. As a wife, mother, and grandmother, I assure you that I understand what you said about no family being perfect. But, we as a family love each other unconditionally. That's what's important. I love your blog, and have grown to love you and your family through it. You are a friend who I've never met personally, but I do call 'my friend' and mean it with all my heart.
    Love to you,
    Jackie

  3. Ah yes, the human condition and the family. Not one of us is perfect and through it all we love and we forgive.

  4. Eileen, I think of our blogs as an artistic expression of life moments we want to remember, so of course we would post about the better moments we experience. Families all have incidents of unintentional hurt feelings or misbehavior, that's life. I think of my blog as a scrapook for my family too and I know family is very important to you. It doesn't come across that you are painting a 'picture perfect' family...just your honest love for them shines through, Eileen!

  6. I "hear" you, my friend. I also can identify with your desire to be honest. It's a "tight rope" we walk sometimes. You have found a great balance, I think....

Happy New Year, Eileen. Don't know how much time I'll have to get around at the proper time - so this might be IT :)

  7. You wrote so well how it is with our family too. If I put it all out here it would be way interesting I think....because we have lots of family drama at times...but that's not my purpose and it's also not my right (being my children are all adults, and married)

So I think all of us Grandmas out here understand...at our time of life we choose to focus on the positive...for several different reasons. But having said all that, the joys are as enormous as we portray.

  8. Hi Eileen, I think all of our families are the same in their own way. I choose to focus on the good also but believe me our family is far from perfect. I think it's very difficult to live in a family because like you say so many different personalities and it's extra hard when we think other people are living the perfect life. I learned a long, long time ago that there is no such thing as the perfect family.
I wanted to wish you and your family a very Happy New Year filled with happiness and joy.
I read your post above and just loved it. My mom used to say some of those same things.
